I is for Imp

Published on
Small Imps with bat wings crowded on a wizard's open spellbook, making some unwanted edits.

Origins & Mythological Mishaps

The Imp is a diminutive creature officially cataloged by the wizarding guilds as the cause of most magical property damage. Originally conjured to serve as low-cost assistants for sorting library scrolls, Imps quickly realized that hiding the wizard’s reading glasses was far more rewarding than filing paperwork. They are the quintessential cosmic pranksters, existing entirely to ensure that no high-level spellcaster ever feels too confident about their organization skills.

Physical Traits & Quirks

Bat Wings

Leathery, and entirely too loud. An Imp flying through a quiet library sounds like a wet umbrella being aggressively shaken, entirely ruining their ability to sneak up on anyone over the age of four.

Pocket-Sized Mischief

Small enough to fit inside a standard leather scroll case. They frequently utilize this trait to hide inside backpacks, only to emerge during a tense dungeon negotiation to draw funny faces on the map.

The Tail

Features a small, triangular barb. While classic folklore warns it carries a stinging curse, it is primarily used to hook keys off tables and poke sleeping adventurers in the ribs.

Tactical Advantage

They possess the ability to turn invisible at will. However, this magical trait is entirely undermined by the fact that they cannot stop snickering while hidden, allowing heroes to easily track them by following the sound of muffled giggles.
