C is for Chupacabra

Origins & Mythological Mishaps

Affectionately cataloged by high-fantasy scholars as the official "Devil Chihuahua" of the wastes, the Chupacabra is a tiny but mighty creature that proves danger comes in very small packages. Originating in the arid badlands, these pint-sized monsters are the result of an ancient goblin experiment to create the ultimate guard dog. It went slightly awry when the creature realized it was far better suited for chaotic woodland pranks.

Despite its fearsome reputation in local folklore, the Chupacabra behaves less like an omen of doom and more like a hyperactive puppy. It spends most of its time guarding its territory against imaginary threats and barking fiercely at inanimate cacti.

Physical Traits & Quirks

The Stature

Compact, spiky, and deceptively agile. A Chupacabra can leap three times its own height. Excellent for escaping predators but incredibly stressful passing hero's.

The Spine

Lined with glowing, colorful quills that flex depending on its mood. When happy, they rattle like maracas; when startled, they flare up to make the creature look twice its size.

The Stealth

Remarkable. It can blend perfectly into desert shadows, only to ruin its own sneak attack by letting out a tiny, high-pitched yip because it stepped on a prickly pear.

Tactical Advantage

In tabletop skirmishes, its small size grants it a massive armor class bonus. However, it can be entirely neutralized by tossing a single squeaky toy or offering a tiny piece of dried jerky.
